When I met Damascus 'the city of jasmine'
Damascus is a city of great beauty hence it is known as the City of Jasmine and also Paradise of the East. It is one of the oldest cities in the world. Damascus is listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.It is one of the few cities that have been continuously inhabited since Antiquity. Damascus has an immense legacy of almost all the cultures that passed through the site where the city currently stands or that settled there. It is a long story beginning approximately in the year BC. C. with the first settlement
We visited it before the civil war broke out and the memories are incredible. All of CXB Directory us who travel when we see the images of war and the destruction that it has caused to the places visited and the death of its people produce a strong emotion in us. We saw the castle of Crac de los Caballeros Aleppo Damascus Palmyra…
One of the aspects that most caught our attention apart from the greatness of Damascus was precisely its people. Their simplicity and how they collaborated with us and their willingness to help so that we had a good time.

TheUmayyad Mosque
It is the most important mosque in the city and one of the oldest and largest in the world. It was built by the Umayyad caliph al-Walid I in the year on the ancient Byzantine cathedral dedicated to Saint John the Baptist since the time of the Roman emperor Constantine I which was worthy of the powerful empire over which he reigns. The great Umayyad Mosque will be the building that will be considered the eighth wonder of the world for many centuries.
It is considered the fourth holiest place in Islam. Located in the old city of Damascus after the Arab conquest. It has a chapel that says it contains the head of Saint John the Baptist considered a prophet by both Christianity and Islam. This building would have occupied the previous Roman temple dedicated to Jupiter Damascenus originally the Syrian god Hadad and model for the temple of the Sun at Palmyra .
There are also important references within the mosque for Shiites such as the place where the head of Hussein bin Ali grandson of the Prophet Muhammad is preserved exhibited by Caliph Yazid I. It is famous for housing the mausoleum of Sultan Saladin which is located in a small garden adjacent to the north wall of the mosque.
The external walls come from the ancient temple of the Aramaic and Roman times. Greek ornaments and insignia can be seen on the external walls. Likewise some columns of the temple are preserved in good condition mainly in the western part in the square in front of the mosque.
